EIGHTH GRADER SAM MCKEOWN PLACES 1ST IN INDY GEOGRAPHIC BEE

Congratulations to eighth grader Sam McKeown for placing first in the Independence Geographic Bee on Jan. 23.

Sam moves on to take the state test. If he qualifies as one of the top scorers, he will represent Independence at the Delaware Geographic Bee on March 29. The state winners then receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C., to compete for cash, college scholarships and a Galápagos Islands getaway at the 31st annual National Geographic Bee Championship from May 19-22.

Seventh graders Gates Watt and Aili Inguito finished in second and third place, respectively, in the Independence Bee.

This year's other finalists were fourth grader Ari Satran, fifth grader Henry Hahn, seventh graders Veer Pahwa, Ben Shaver, Aadi Varshney and Louie Zhang, and eighth grader Gautam Wadhwa, who was last year's school champion.
