Fine and Performing Arts

Independence nurtures and celebrates creativity in many forms.

The academic core is absolutely vital, but so are teamwork, self-expression and self-discovery.

This is a place of many opportunities. Students experience music and art instruction beginning at the early grade levels, forming the foundation of a lifelong connection to the creative arts – whether as a musician, sculptor, singer or simply an appreciative observer.

The level of achievement in art and music at Independence is inspiring, as is the overwhelming student participation. From our music wing and art studios to a 900-seat auditorium, we support the development of creative minds with first-rate facilities – and first-rate faculty.

Counted among Independence alumni are national recording artists, award-winning fine artists, designers, architects and more, including violinist Katie Jacoby '04, who has toured frequently with 1990 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Who.

Independence offered so many creative outlets, including the strings program, the annual talent show, and seasonal concerts, during my time there. The support and encouragement that I received from teachers and students alike helped shape me into the musician and person I am today.
