Endowments & Scholarships

Maintaining the distinctive qualities that define The Independence School, and keeping it strong for the future, requires substantial resources. Capital and endowment gifts provide a stable and flexible financial foundation upon which Independence can flourish.

Capital campaign gifts and endowed gifts may be unrestricted or designated by the donor for use in support of specific programs, initiatives, or construction and renovation projects. The Advancement Office collaborates with Independence's alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends to align their interests with the School's needs.

Endowment-Supported Programs & Scholarships

Endowments provide The Independence School with a permanent source of financial strength, ensuring that future generations of students benefit from the same exceptional educational experience that current students have. Established through charitable gifts, endowment funds are carefully stewarded by the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees and invested to preserve and grow the principal while providing annual support for the School's mission.

Donors may establish endowed funds that reflect their passions and priorities, including scholarships, faculty development, innovative academic and extracurricular programs, and the care and enhancement of campus resources. Gifts may also be directed to the General Endowment, providing flexible support for the School's greatest opportunities and needs. While many campaign gifts create an immediate impact through new facilities and programs, endowment gifts ensure that today's investments continue to strengthen Independence for generations to come.

Through the generosity of our donors, the visionary leadership of our Board of Trustees, and careful stewardship, Independence's endowment has grown to more than $12M, providing meaningful support to the annual operating budget, helping sustain our mission while expanding opportunities for students. Gifts of any size can be made to the General or a Named Endowment. If you are considering establishing a new endowment at Independence, we would be happy to discuss the process, your interests, and the minimum gift required.

Other Scholarships & Awards

In addition to the endowed scholarships, there are a number of other scholarships and awards for current students, faculty, and staff. The Scholarship Committee selects qualified recipients in accordance with established criteria for each scholarship and award.
