Campus Pillar

Goal: Raise $330,000 to Improve School Security and Update the Campus Entrance

The Foundation for the Future Campaign will make our exceptional campus both more beautiful and more secure.

Improve School Security

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority at The Independence School. While the school has appropriate safety protocols in place, it needs to update its security, both inside and outside of our buildings. With classes intentionally spending more time outside, Independence is committed to adapting its security measures to make sure our students are as safe as possible as we utilize new learning environments. To this end, the school will:

  • Create a more welcoming and attractive visitor waiting area in the locked vestibule of the main reception area, which will require a new set of locking doors to replace the current interior doors;
  • Make the main reception area more obvious so that it is clear which is the main entrance to the school;
  • Purchase an electronic visitor sign-in system utilizing the latest security technology available;
  • Update its communications systems that will blend the three current systems used (phone, internal phone, and PA system) into a single integrated system.

Update the Campus Entrance on Paper Mill Road

The Independence School is known throughout Delaware and the surrounding region as one of the most exceptional feeder schools to the best high schools in the tristate region. Yet the school’s current signage on Paper Mill Road is small and unassuming, making it easy for passersby to completely overlook the school’s influential presence in our community.

The Foundation for the Future campaign will enable us to:

  • Construct larger, more prominent signage on Paper Mill Road;
  • Ensure the school’s signage and entrance are brightly lit at night;
  • Provide prospective families with a strong first impression of Independence; and
  • Give current families a source of pride in their school community.
