Writing with Purpose and Patriotism
Every year, our 6th graders participate in the National Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), open to students in grades 6-8. This year’s theme was 'How Are You Inspired by America?'
Last weekend, three of our students were honored for their award-winning essays, sweeping the podium for Hockessin VFW Post 5892. Congratulations to Myra (third), Rebecca (second), and James (first)! James’ essay then advanced to the district-level competition, where he earned third place.
Veterans at the post praised the writing skills displayed by Independence students, both this year and in the past. #WatchMeSoar
