Training for Emergency Response and Reunification

A team of nine Independence administrators and staff recently had the opportunity to attend a valuable two-day training session sponsored by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) and conducted by the "I Love U Guys Foundation," a national non-profit organization dedicated to training and supporting schools in emergency response planning. The Foundation has developed the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and Standard Reunification Method (SRM) used at schools and school districts throughout the United States.

The training, one of three regional sessions brought to Delaware by DEMA, is part of the state's goal to have all public and charter schools use the same emergency response methods and language. This consistency makes it possible for districts and schools to support one another in the event of a serious emergency. Independence is adopting the Foundation's methods as we continue to strengthen our safety and security practices and protocols. We were the only private school with a team in attendance at the New Castle County training.

You will hear more about the Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method during the first few weeks of school. In the meantime, you can visit the I Love U Guys Foundation website at this link.
