Outdoor Classroom Day

November 7, 2019 was Outdoor Classroom Day, established by the non-profit group, Project Dirt (now Semble) in 2016 as a campaign to build awareness for the importance of children learning and playing outdoors. It didn't take much convincing to get Independence students and teachers outside since outdoor learning is an important aspect of our students' experiences. Just about every grade level from early childhood through 8th grade marked the day and took learning outdoors.  From exploration of the streams, to collecting natural materials as inspiration for writing, to a study of the topographic features and history of the Independence property, there were lessons everywhere!
