Learning Through Exploration in Early Childhood

This year, our youngest learners in ECI and ECII are stepping into scientific discovery as science is introduced as a dedicated co-curricular for the first time. The new initiative features two classes: Story Explorers and Wonder Walks.

In Story Explorers, science teacher Mrs. Kitching and librarian Mrs. Scarpone team up to use literature as a bridge into science. Each session starts with a book, using stories to introduce concepts before transitioning into themed activities. By reading first and then exploring, students directly connect literacy with hands-on learning.

Outside the classroom, Wonder Walks give students dedicated campus exploration time alongside Mrs. Kitching and their classroom teachers, turning the grounds into a living laboratory. The curriculum focuses on understanding the natural world and noticing differences between indoor and outdoor environments.

By connecting literacy and through real-world inquiry, ECI and ECII students aren't just learning about science; they are actively experiencing it. In both classes, the exploration itself is the lesson.
