Home Is Where the Habitat Is

The Independence School is honored to have received the 2025 Governor’s Conservation Award in the Urban Category for our Stream Stabilization Project! This work consisted of restoring our tributary (fondly known as “Little Trib”), which is part of the Wild and Scenic White Clay Creek watershed, further enhancing our outdoor classroom space for our students. The project included adding a rock seat wall and a boulder path, as well as relocating the channel away from the shoreline.

We’re pleased to do our part in keeping the Pike Creek region healthy and beautiful!
