Field Discoveries in Zoology and Geology

Spring is an exciting season of discovery for our students, both on and off campus. Recently, our 1st and 4th graders ventured beyond the classroom on field trips, providing them with unique opportunities to engage directly with their curriculum.

Our 1st graders kicked off their preparations for the upcoming Mammal Zoo Project with an action-packed visit to Plumpton Park Zoo. Acting as junior zoologists, the students explored the characteristics and adaptations of mammals. We can’t wait to welcome the First Grade Mammal Zoo to Independence later this month to learn about the mammals the students have been researching!

The 4th grade journeyed to the Delaware Aerospace Education Foundation (DASEF) in Smyrna to bring their science curriculum to life. The students examined the properties of rocks and minerals through various hands-on stations. A particular favorite was the "cookie excavation" activity, where students used cookies to represent land and chocolate chips to represent minerals, teaching them the delicate balance of extracting resources from the earth.
