Creating Space for Connection at Lunch

This year, with the addition of our School Counselor, Mr. Brangs, lunch bunches have become a valuable part of student life at Independence. Designed to create a smaller, more relaxed setting during the school day, these groups give students the opportunity to connect with peers, build relationships, and develop a stronger sense of belonging within the school community. Conversations are informal and student-centered, often supported by light prompts or activities, with focus areas that may include friendship skills, communication, self-awareness, and navigating social dynamics.

Throughout the year, lunch bunches rotate across grade levels to ensure a wide range of students can participate. More structured groups are typically held for students in kindergarten through third grade, while additional team lunches may be offered for sports teams. Beyond skill-building, lunch bunches provide a consistent space for students to strengthen peer relationships while building familiarity and trust with the School Counselor, establishing a reliable source of support throughout their time at Independence.
