A Journey to Puerto Rico

Thirteen rising 7th and 8th graders recently returned from an unforgettable service and cultural immersion trip to Puerto Rico with Global Works. Their time focused on meaningful work, including helping to construct a home in Villa Del Rio by building wall supports with rebar and wooden frames, and partnering with ECOSOL on sustainable trail maintenance projects.

Along the way, students documented their experiences in journals while staying at both the Big Yellow House and Casa Coral, two welcoming homes just steps from the beach. Some of their favorite moments included an insider-led tour of Puerto Rico’s historic district, traditional meals, salsa dancing, and kayaking through Fajardo’s glowing bioluminescent bay. And whenever there was free time? You could find them in the water.

A special thank you to group leader Mrs. Grote, chaperone Mrs. Slaton, and Ms. Maren from Global Works for making this experience possible!
