A Collaborative Day of Discovery with Archmere Academy

Last week, Independence welcomed seniors from Archmere Academy for a day of hands-on learning and scientific exchange, the first collaboration of its kind between the two schools' science departments.

The day began with Independence 7th graders explaining (with visuals) what macroinvertebrates are and why they are important for assessing stream health. During their trip to the creeks with the Archmere students, our students discussed how to collect and identify the creatures.

In the afternoon, the roles reversed as the Archmere seniors presented to Independence’s 8th graders. They introduced the transect sampling method, demonstrating how this technique is used to study biodiversity and analyze patterns within natural environments.

The collaboration bridged classroom learning with real-world science, highlighting how students’ curiosity and commitment to environmental stewardship evolve as they advance from middle school to high school.
