8th Grade Takes the Stand in Mock Trial

This trimester, 8th graders had the opportunity to take Mock Trial, an elective taught by middle school English teacher Kevin McDonald. With his extensive experience teaching Mock Trial at the high school level and for Summer at Independence, Mr. McDonald guided students through a gripping civil case involving a drone injury, with both prosecution and defense teams striving to sway the jury, which included Independence faculty and administrators. The young attorneys and witnesses showcased remarkable poise under pressure. Ultimately, the defense team emerged victorious. Each side displayed commendable skill, quick thinking, and an overall understanding of the law. A special thank you to Mary Kate Campbell, Corporate Counsel for Nemours Company (and Mr. McDonald’s sister), who graciously served as the judge.
