The first grade classes had a fantastic time at the Hagley Museum on Monday, November 22 as they were transported back to a time when cast iron stoves were used for baking and clothes were wrung through a wringer. While in the Gibbons House, the home of the Hagley foreman, they participated in daily 19th century activities, such as baking cookies, doing laundry, and dressing in period clothing. They also took part in short lessons in the Brandywine Manufacturers' Sunday school, which provided schooling for mill workers' children. All of these experiences helped the first graders compare the way individuals in the community lived in the past with the way they live in the present!
