INDY MATHLETES HEADED TO STATES

Independence's seventh-grade "Gamma" team (Louie, Olivia J., Om, Rai and Veer) placed first and the eighth-grade "Alpha" squad (Ben, Eason, Mia, Michael and Rich) garnered second in Region 5 of the Delaware Secondary School Math League for 2018-19. As a result, both groups of mathletes will represent our school at the State Invitational Meets next week in Dover.

Only the Top-2 teams in the region for each grade level qualify for states, which will take place on April 9 for eighth grade and April 11 for seventh, both at the Modern Maturity Center.

Individually, Mia, who correctly answered 18 of 21 questions, and Om (17-for-21) will be recognized at the state banquet after each finished second regionally in their respective grade levels, while Olivia J. and Veer tied for third with 14 points apiece.

All teams in Region 5 competed in three regular-season meets (Nov. 7, Dec. 4 and Jan. 7), with the fourth and final event, scheduled for Feb. 11, being canceled due to inclement weather.

THE KEY TO BETTER SLEEP? DROP THE DEVICE

By Mrs. Linza Godfrey, School Nurse

All of us, including our kids, are surrounded by technology. Whether it's a cell phone, tablet or computer, these devices have become a part of daily life. So much so that it's hard to put them down - even at bedtime.
