We hope everyone had a wonderful time at our first-ever FebFest on Friday night! We would like to thank all of the parents, students, faculty and staff who volunteered their time to make this new event a huge success. Events like this simply don't happen without the help of our community. A special thank you goes out to Indy parent Ryan Haydu for his leadership and First State Orthopaedics for its generous sponsorship.

We are thrilled to announce that the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools (ADVIS) has awarded Independence and Archmere Academy an Edward E. Ford Foundation grant designed to fund innovative, collaborative projects between our schools.

The grant will underwrite the academic work of administration and faculty at both schools to develop a joint three-day winter program for January 2020, collaborative faculty professional development, and action research.

The research will focus on two areas - students' acquisition and mastery of critical thinking skills and students' overall health and wellness as they relate to stress and anxiety.

We are excited about the opportunity to join with another strong school in our commitment to faculty professional development and to inform our curricula around child and adolescent development.

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

In celebration of Black History Month this February, fourth-grade Economic & Entrepreneurial Education (E3) students investigated the life and entrepreneurial endeavors of innovative, influential leader Booker T. Washington. The fourth graders began the lesson by discussing Washington's experiences as an enslaved child carrying school books for his master's daughters right after the Civil War, and they concluded with a celebration of his profound accomplishments, most notably as an educator and founder of the Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University, in Alabama. Pictured below are some of the students evaluating the resources involved in Washington's many jobs.
