May 12: Independence 2, Wilmington Friends 0Sophia scored on a penalty kick and Luciana finished off a feed from Defne to lift the visiting Patriots in their season finale. After a 0-3-2 start to the 2017 campaign, Independence rattled off six consecutive victories, a stretch during which the team outscored the opposition 21-1 and registered five shutouts.

Maddie registered one goal and one assist, Caroline also scored and Jordan dished out an assist for the host Patriots, who have outscored the opposition 19-1 and recorded four shutouts on their current five-game winning streak.

Allie scored twice, Jess added one goal and one assist and Hayley also netted a goal for the visiting Patriots (10-0), who recorded their ninth shutout of the season.
With inclement weather forcing the cancelation of its scheduled finale on May 13, the girls’ soccer team officially capped back-to-back undefeated campaigns, a third in four years and fourth since 2010.
Over 10 games this spring, Independence outscored the opposition 47-1, and cumulatively in two seasons under head coach Carley Hecht, the Patriots have gone 20-0-1 while scoring 124 goals and surrendering only four.

Lauren (two assists) and Jess each netted a hat trick, Katie and Maggie scored one goal apiece and Halie, Hayley, Allie and Isabelle all dished out an assist for the visiting Patriots (10-0-1), who completed their third unbeaten season since 2010. Over 11 games, Independence outscored the opposition by an astonishing 77-3 margin, with Isabelle (one goal against) and Katie (two goals against) combining for eight shutouts in net.
