Why Preschool Through 8th Grade

Growing Minds, Building Futures

Preschool through 8th grade schools offer numerous benefits that cater to a child's academic, social, and emotional development. These are incredibly formative years, and the journey from Early Childhood through Middle School represents the longest stop on your child’s educational path. Independence recognizes that while we are preparing children for a future that is impossible to know, it is not impossible to shape. Choosing a preschool through 8th grade school means investing in an educational journey that nurtures and empowers students at every stage of their early development.

Letting Kids Be Kids

At The Independence School, we believe childhood is something to be celebrated, not rushed. In a preschool through 8th grade environment, students have the time and space to grow at their own pace, developing confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning—without the pressures often found in a traditional K-12 setting. They can be leaders without being rushed into young adulthood, allowing them to develop confidence in who they are before stepping into the next phase of their education.

Tailored Academic Programs

A preschool-8th grade structure allows schools to design curricula that cater specifically to the developmental stages of their students. At Independence, our programs are crafted to meet the evolving needs of children as they progress through each grade, ensuring they are challenged and supported appropriately.

What We Teach

Confident Leaders

Middle school students have unique opportunities to take on leadership roles in a preschool-8th grade setting. They are the team captains, the student government, band section leaders, and student ambassadors. These experiences of seniority and leadership are invaluable to a middle schooler. This is the environment that fosters confidence and prepares them for future challenges.

Class of 2025
Skills for Life

By the time students complete 8th grade, they are well-prepared academically and socially to transition to high school. The skills and confidence gained in a preschool-8 environment lay a strong foundation for future academic achievements and personal growth. We teach our 8th graders how to take all of the valuable skills they have acquired and use them to present their best selves as they move to their next stage of life.

Patriot Pals

Our Patriot Pal program fosters meaningful connections between our youngest and oldest students, creating friendships that inspire across the board. By pairing Early Childhood I students with 8th grade mentors, we are cultivating a sense of belonging, curiosity, and confidence. These buddies share snacks, laughter, and special moments, building bonds that will strengthen throughout the year. While our younger Patriots gain role models to look up to, our middle schoolers develop leadership skills through guidance and kindness, making this program a win for all.

As a parent who has been at Indy for the last 14 years, I will be forever grateful for the role this institution has played in shaping my family. Nothing makes me happier than to see my kids always happy and excited to be heading to school. The positive and lasting imprint of Indy on their character is an unmistakable badge of honor.
