Center for Wellness, Innovation & Learning (CWIL)

Established in 2016, the Center for Wellness, Innovation and Learning (CWIL™, pronounced "Quill") grew out of the work of Independence’s Wellness and Learning Support Team to respond to the needs of supporting the whole child. CWIL’s team approach to addressing not only academic progress, but also motor, language, cognitive, emotional, and physical development and health, allows Independence to provide a program that holds the full interests of the students at heart, both in and out of the classroom.

Parent education, research and best practices form the foundation of the center’s work. CWIL’s mission is to ensure that Independence students truly develop into independent, intellectually curious individuals.

YouTube? In the classroom?
Ms. Sarah Gilmore

Yes, you're reading that headline correctly. YouTube may be one of the most popular social media sites today, but it surprisingly serves a purpose in today's classrooms. YouTube has come a long way since its early days as a platform for sharing home videos of comical toddler meltdowns and animals doing tricks. This completely free resource has become a staple in many 21st-century, technology-influenced classrooms. With many millions of education-centric videos and a generation of students who already have a buy-in with the video-sharing venue, why not use YouTube to support learning?
