WHEN I SAY SOUL...

Image

...YOU SAY STEPS!

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade clapped, shouted, and of course, stepped along with Soul Steps during the New York City-based dance company's visit to the Gore Auditorium on Feb. 15. And the students certainly weren't alone in their enthusiasm, as faculty, staff and administrators danced along to the beat, as well! Independence's consulting psychologist, Dahra Williams, attended college with Soul Steps founder Maxine Lyle and helped to organize the group's electrifying visit to our school as part of a Black History Month celebration. As noted on its website, Soul Steps speaks the language of rhythm, with the step dancers using their bodies as percussive instruments to inspire, celebrate and forge community. For more information on Soul Steps, visit www.soulsteps.com.
